Chavez Calls Colombia “The Israel of Latin America”

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has called Colombia the “Israel of South America” due to its US backed attacks on militants.

Venezuela's embassy in Bogota has been closed and tanks moved onto the Colombian –Venezuelan border while Chavez has warned Uribe "We aren't going to permit Colombia to become the Israel of these lands. ... Uribe, we aren't going to permit you."

Tensions in South America have been heightened since a recent Colombian attack on FARC forces inside Ecuador which killed a top FARC leader.
