Colombia announces death of a leader of the Farc

The death of Ríos occurs less of one week after the military incursion of Colombia in Ecuadorian territory where 25 guerrillas of the Farc had been deceased, including the spokesman of the guerrilla Raúl Reyes.

The invasion in the Equator unchained a crisis without precedents in the Andean region also involving Venezuela. In accordance with military sources, Ríos died in combat with troops of the Army in the agricultural zone of Watery, in the State of Caldas, the central region of Colombia.

Ríos was member of the team of negotiation of the Farc in the carried through dialogues of peace during the government of Andres Pastrana, has six years. The guerrila one was considered one of the leaders of bigger projection in the group due its military knowledge and politicians. According to periodical El Tiempo, Ivan Ríos was economist, graduated the University of Antioquia.
